Cajun Salmon and Shrimp
Ingredients
- 2 salmon fillets (6 oz each)
- 8–10 large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, divided
- 1 tablespoon Cajun seasoning (store-bought or homemade)
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for extra heat)
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 clove garlic, minced
- 1/2 lemon, juiced
- Optional garnish: chopped parsley and lemon wedges
Preparation
Step 1: Prep the Seafood
- Pat the salmon fillets and shrimp dry with paper towels.
- Season both with Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
- Sprinkle cayenne pepper if you prefer more spice.
Step 2: Cook the Salmon
- Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Place the salmon fillets skin-side down in the skillet and cook for 4–5 minutes, until the skin is crispy.
- Flip the fillets and cook for another 2–3 minutes, or until the salmon is cooked through. Remove from the skillet and set aside.
Step 3: Cook the Shrimp
- In the same skillet, add the remaining olive oil and butter.
- Sauté the minced garlic for 30 seconds, until fragrant.
- Add the shrimp and cook for 1–2 minutes per side, or until pink and opaque.
- Squeeze the lemon juice over the shrimp and toss to coat.
Step 4: Serve
- Plate the salmon fillets and top them with the cooked shrimp.
- Drizzle any remaining garlic butter sauce from the skillet over the seafood.
- Garnish with chopped parsley and lemon wedges.
Tips for Success
- Crispy Skin: Ensure the salmon skin is dry before cooking for a perfect crispy texture.
- Don’t Overcook: Keep an eye on the shrimp to prevent them from becoming rubbery.
- Homemade Cajun Seasoning: Mix paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, thyme, oregano, cayenne, and salt for a quick DIY blend.
Variations
- Creamy Sauce: Add a splash of heavy cream to the skillet after cooking the shrimp for a rich, Cajun-style cream sauce.
- Vegetable Side: Serve with sautéed asparagus, spinach, or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
- Grilled Option: Grill the salmon and shrimp for a smoky flavor twist.
